A Synopsis of “Gone To Seed”, a New Zealand comedy written by playwright Tim Hambleton.
A gardening club meets monthly in a church hall and is losing members due to old age, illness, or accident. It is also in financial difficulties, not helped by the unpleasant local church Reverend, an ex member of the club, who is determined to see the club gone from the hall. The members need to find a source of revenue come up with an innovative fundraising solution. The Reverend after eavesdropping mistakenly suspects the members of dealing drugs. He engages an inept detective to investigate in the hope of providing him with enough dirt to expel the club. The detective, hopelessly out of his depth, has completely misread the situation and as a result the Minister’s plan backfires.
